UNUSUAL "TRASH" TO USABLE "TREASURES"

Once again, thank you Rhoda and Susan for hosting such fun blog parties. Be sure and visit their blogs to see who else is participating this week:

So I have two "treasures" that I acquired at a couple of sales on Saturday. One is a CD holder that I have visions of using as a dog collar display at craft shows OR maybe to hold necklaces. I will try to get it transformed in the next couple of weeks and let you see the outcome.

The other happens to be a large multi-strength brass vanity mirror. I just fell in love with it when I saw it.

A couple of weeks ago I happened upon a "chalkboard" blog party and was so inspired by what other crafty gals were doing with chalkboard paint.
I knew that this mirror was destined to be a message/chalkboard!

First, I cleaned all the areas and masked off both mirrors:

Next, I spray painted the metal a mat gold color, only because that was the only spray paint I had on hand! That's a recycled plastic tablecloth I'm using as a dropcloth.

Third step: I masked off the metal portion and sprayed only one mirror (the magnified side) with about 7 coats of Chalkboard spray paint. Hint: allow the metal painted portion to cure at least 24 hours before this step--the tape will remove some of the fresh paint, otherwise.

While I was at it, I went ahead and painted the glass from a frame and a portion of a pickle jar.

Here are the results:

The framed chalkboard will be going to a friend whose birthday is in a couple of weeks.
The pickle jar will soon reside with our son and I'm keeping the "mirror" message board for our home.
